Artist Statement

An artist's journey is like a thread that weaves its way through one's creative life. As a dedicated artist, I am always looking for ways to experiment as I learn and grow through the process. Like the thread in a tapestry, an idea should travel in many directions before finding its place in the completed work.

A walk through my studio is a chance to share in my personal story and see what emerges from my mind. Artists can't heIp but be influenced by those that came before them, as well as those that inspire them today. The challenge of this journey is to be true to one’s ideals while following that thread, and always working to create something unique.

Bio

A lifetime of art studies started at a very young age for Maryellen Morrow.

Working with local artists in Connecticut stimulated a passion for art and directs her life to this day. College in Boston helped her realize the possibilities while encountering all the competition in an immense field.

Art advertising was her first venture into the working world. A Miami, Florida advertising agency made her realize this was not her calling. She continued her studies focusing on painting, print making, and ceramics. While working at a prestigious gallery in
Scottsdale, Arizona, she realized her passion and pursued her own artistic endeavors.

A master oil painting class helped her realize her potential. Painting in a shared studio space with like-minded artists stimulated conversations about new directions.

Being accepted in an artist in residency program on Canyon Road, Santa Fe, New Mexico was her next life changing experience. A living/working studio, as well as gallery space completely immersed her. Painting large works, having a one-woman show and living in a very energizing art community was liberating. It was a wonderful period of abstract
experimentation.

Her journey continued as she reached out to a serious group of artists painting in Plein Air. Sharing knowledge and questioning their vision is an ever enlightening experience. This incredible tool has broadened her field of observation, improved her technical skills and encouraged her to interpret the world in various ways A day out in the field does
wonders for time in the studio. Creating is personal, no matter what direction you follow. Observing nature is one of the important tools she uses to help complete her vision. They say artists were born to create. She would like to think that is her calling.
